I arrived at the Lazy Spring Ranch, escaping the congested, sweltering heat of the Northeast summer.

The ranch accommodations are superb. The house design, layout, and detailed attention to a traveling guest's needs, all contributed to the full enjoyment of my time spent at the Lazy Spring Ranch. The dry heat, gentle breeze and fantastic views offered by the Bighorn Mountain range helped create a relaxing space whether enjoyed from one of the several outdoor or indoor seating areas. Our group thoroughly enjoyed our time spent hiking nearby trails, cleansing ourselves in the wet sauna bath, and soaking in the hot tub. The plush bathrobes offered by the ranch were a thoughtful touch. I definitely recommend a day trip to nearby Cody to explore the Buffalo Bill Museum, the out of the ordinary shopping and fine dining. Lazy Spring Ranch offered a truly complete base for our Wyoming adventure vacation.

What a beautiful spot for a relaxing vacation. The ranch house with the amenities including a hot tub, wet sauna, steam bath, game room, poker table, and fully equipped kitchen (including outdoor grill). There are wonderful hiking trails nearby. We have taken a different hike every day. On the way to the hikes, there are opportunities for scenic overlooks that are breathtaking. The landscape is constantly changing from dark gray terrain, to green, to red.

The hostess and owner have been very accommodating. The hostess has been very attentive and responsive to our questions and needs. The owner has provided information about the area that enabled us to find activities that we have enjoyed in the area in addition to the hiking experiences. The visit to the dinosaur dig was fantastic. The geologist and/or archeologists were fascinating. They certainly had us enthralled for 90 minutes. We now understand why the landscape is ever changing.

I can highly recommend Lazy Spring Ranch to groups that hike, play cards, fish, horseback ride (dude ranch down the road although we did not do this), families/groups that want to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Lazy Spring Ranch is a beautiful home to relax and unwind. My best vacations are ones that give me a chance to learn something new, I can be physically active, and at the end of the day, enjoy some relaxed company of friends. This vacation fits the bill.

The stunning mountains are a lesson in geology. I particularly enjoyed going to the dinosaur dig site. Don and Bob are geologists as well as paleontologists that were happy to answer all our questions. It is an amazing site.

The home provided a great base to explore the Bighorns, which provide a secluded place to hike. I far and away prefer the hikes here to Yellowstone. The beautiful meadows, streams, and stunning views are incredible in The Cloud Peak Preserve, accessed from Shell Canyon. I even pulled out a fly rod for the first time in years and landed brown and rainbow trout.

Most of all, I enjoyed the finer things in the home. From well appointed kitchen to the decks and patios with stunning views, it was easy to relax. The hot tub was great for relieving my sore muscles too! Spending the day reading on the deck in the warm sunshine and gathering by the outdoor fire pit at night were simple pleasures. Anything you could want is here: a sauna, big fluffy robes, fat towels, great beds, and beautiful furnishings.

The Lazy Spring Ranch certainly lives up to its billing! After visiting our national treasures (Bighorn National Recreation Area, Shell Canyon, Medicine Wheel, etc.), fly fishing, hiking and digging, the ranch offers a welcoming atmosphere. Cooking meals in the well equipped kitchen, relaxing in the hot tub, and cooking s'mores at the outside fireplace, offers all the comfort of home and more. There is so much to do here you can't possibly do it all in one visit. I am exhausted after this week stay but still feel rested. I will miss the ranch - I wish this was my home.

Amazing hiking and sightseeing activities without the crowds of Yellowstone! The drive over the Bighorn Mountains through Shell Canyon on Hwy 14 is not to be missed. Whether hiking or riding a horse, be sure to try the Adelaide Trail in Shell Canyon. The Bighorn Canyon is well worth the drive to Lovell – you’ll find beautiful scenery and a variety of hiking trails. The Hillsboro Trail and Barry’s Landing Trail are favorites of the rangers. Nearby Medicine Wheel provides a 3-mile RT walk at 10,000 feet with gorgeous views and knowledgeable rangers. There were still snowdrifts in late July at Medicine Wheel! The Porcupine Trail is near Medicine Wheel; the wild sage and pine made it the most fragrant hike. One of the highlights of our trip was a visit to the dinosaur dig down the road from the Lazy Spring Ranch. Bob and Don were smart and funny and so willing to explain the operation and history of the various geological periods. Forget “Jurassic Park”; this is the real thing!

The town of Greybull is about 15 miles west of the ranch. Ron’s Food Store is convenient and has a good selection of food items, supplies, wines and liquors. Lisa’s (restaurant) has great food and generous portions.

For a real western town experience, Cody is about an hour away. It makes a great day trip. The stores are fun to browse, and if you need to replace your outdoor gear, go to the Sierra Trading Post Outlet. The Buffalo Bill Historical Center is excellent. There are a number of good restaurants and cafes to choose from in Cody. For a slice of Americana, the Cody Nite Rodeo is a must.

There are so many possibilities with Lazy Spring Ranch as your home base that you can’t do them all in a week! I still want to see the Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracks, the Devil’s Kitchen and Medicine Lodge (south of Shell); try horseback riding and the spa at the Hideout; and take a Bighorn Canyon scenic boat ride.

The Lazy Spring Ranch is a wonderful place to return to after a day of sightseeing or activities. The hot tub and sauna were favorites of our group. It was relaxing and awesome to watch the colors of the Bighorn Mountains change as the sun set. Karen has done a great job of thinking through all the details of decorating the ranch and ensuring that it has everything one could want. The hostess, Laura, and her husband were responsive to our phone calls and questions.

Be sure to pace yourself at the Lazy Spring Ranch and allow time to relax at the house – I highly recommend scheduling a vacation within a vacation.

I cannot imagine a more blissful week than the one I spent at the spacious, beautifully-appointed Lazy Spring Ranch in Shell Wyoming. I had never been to Wyoming before but always heard how spectacular it is. What a treasure-land I had in store!!!

A drive through the area provides an ever changing panorama of gorgeous mountains, colors, vegetation, and arid rocky areas-all different. Not only that, it was a blessedly cool and breezy escape from the North Carolina heat and humidity of July.

The long list of highlights from the week includes:
· Nearby dinosaur dig
· A number of exceptional hikes: Medicine Wheel with its Native American history and culture, and Porcupine and Adelaide Trails with their carpets of wildflowers and sage
· Incredibly scenic drives in all directions
· Returning to the ranch after our full days to the hot tub, sauna, and steam, plush bathrobes, gorgeous views, heavenly beds, and every imaginable creature comfort.
